Power Requirements
Shoemaker Jukebox - Electrical Requirements
The Shoemaker Jukebox needs one (1) standard 3-prong outlet to operate. The machine will utilize between 5 and 10 amps depending on volume levels. Songs with lots of Bass will have peaks that may exceed this measurement. Therefore, it is our recommendation that you supply the machine with a dedicated 15 amp circuit to avoid tripping the breaker.
IMPORTANT: Avoid Repeated Trips
No matter how the machine is powered it is important to consider that the machine expects clean, consistent power. If the machine is turned on/off/on/off/on/off continuously this can lead to problems with the machine. If the outlet is on a switch that is mistakenly being tripped, a generator that is turning on and off, or the power cable is constantly being unplugged; this can cause damage to the system's operating software. This is especially true during startup and shutdown. Only turn on the machine after the power is constant and stable. When refilling the gas in a generator, please turn off the machine using the Shut Down command and WAIT for it to be completely shut down before refilling the generator. Turn on the generator, and make sure it is completely running and stable. Then after the power is stable, turn back on the machine.
GFCI circuits
A GFCI circuit is an outlet with special shock protection built in. These outlets usually have a "trip" and "reset" button on the front. If the outlet does not have a trip/reset button it still may be a GFCI supplied by a nearby outlet (upstream), or a circuit breaker with GFCI built in. GFCI circuits will work, but are more sensitive than regular outlets and may result in false breaker trips. Plugging into a GFCI outlet with a long extension cord, or while having other devices plugged into the same circuit may trip the GFCI protection and therefore turn off the machine. You may want to be aware of what type of outlet you are connecting to, so if it trips you can press the "reset" button to reset the outlet. If a GFCI outlet is continuously tripping while utilizing the machine, we recommend finding a different outlet to plug into.
Generator Power
If there is no source for power at your party location a generator may be used. Most generators that supply greater than or equal to 1000 watts (10 amps) should work, a 2000 watt (20 amp) generator is recommended. If using a generator, please consider the noise that the generator creates. If the generator is a "quiet" type used in camp sites then it should be fine placed relatively close to the machine. But some generators need to be placed at a longer distance from the machine (using an extension cord) to move it far away from the machine so the jukebox is still audible and enjoyable. Placing the generator behind a fence or some plywood might help keep the sound down (for ultra noisy generators).
